The new travel documentaries about Scotland and Hawaii

Two travel documentaries on ZDF will take you to Scotland and Hawaii shortly before Christmas: “On the road in Scotland” on December 21st, 22.15:22 p.m., and “Hawaii’s hidden paradises” on December 22.35nd, XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

The films are available in the ZDF Mediathek from 10.00 a.m. one day before broadcast.

“On the Road in Scotland” by Jeannine Apsel follows the Royal Scotsman, a train that is a rolling hotel on rails and takes guests from Edinburgh through the Scottish Highlands to the west coast.

The journey takes you past deep lakes, which are called lochs in Scotland. There are almost 30.000 of them.

Loch Lomond is the largest freshwater lake in Great Britain, and Loch Ness is one of the country’s most famous sights.

Other highlights include the journey over the Glenfinnan Viaduct and across the almost untouched Rannoch Moor.

Along the way, there are encounters with people like Kate Fieldhouse, who is active in one of Scotland's many reforestation projects, or Jim Bicker.

The former sports teacher now works as a master of ceremonies for weddings at Mount Stuart House, a Victorian mansion.

Hardly any place in the world stands for paradisiacal landscapes as much as Hawaii.

The film by Christopher Gerisch and Anja Kindler, “Hawaii’s Hidden Paradises,” takes a journey to different regions of the Pacific island empire.

From the lush green canyons of Kauai, to the mighty volcanoes of Big Island, to the crystal clear coastal waters of Oahu.

Hawaii's coasts are also a paradise for surfers from all over the world. One of them is Tom Pohaku Stone.

The 71-year-old former university teacher is not only a living surfing legend, but has also spent his life searching for his cultural heritage, his Polynesian roots.

The documentary also introduces people who are dedicated to protecting Hawaii’s unique flora and fauna.
