Castrol is writing a new story together with the space company Lunar Outpost.
As part of the Lunar Voyage 1 (LV1) mission, the Mapp Rover became the first commercial rover to reach the moon – accompanied by the lubricant specialist’s many years of space expertise.
At the heart of the mission is Mission Control – the core of planning and control. From here, the rover is guided through the challenging lunar environment, collecting valuable data with state-of-the-art sensors, and providing insights for future space projects.
Castrol has been a reliable partner in space travel for over 60 years – from the legendary Apollo missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
The company's specially developed high-performance lubricants can withstand even the most extreme conditions such as vacuum and cold – a crucial factor for the success of technical systems in space.
Sandeep Sangwan, Chief Marketing Officer at Castrol, emphasizes: “The success of missions is based on partnership, expertise and pioneering spirit. Our collaboration with Lunar Outpost shows how innovation and experience go hand in hand to shape the future of space exploration.”
Justin Cyrus, CEO of Lunar Outpost, is also convinced: "With Castrol on our side, we are not only bringing the MAPP Rover safely to the moon, but are also making a significant contribution to the advancement of the entire space industry."

Role of Castrol: As the primary partner for the Mission Control Center, Castrol supports the control of the rover, the monitoring of autonomous functions and the data analysis.
Historical meaning: The mission is expected to achieve several firsts, including the first commercial rover on another celestial body and the first commercial commercialization of space resources.
Castrol has been active in the space industry for over 60 years and has supplied lubricants for the Apollo missions, the Space Shuttle program and the International Space Station, among others.
This partnership makes it clear: commercial space travel is no longer a vision of the future – it is reality.
